The end of a few wonderfull days with a lot of boats, people and water.....

Waar komt hartjesdag vandaan?
De exacte herkomst is niet geheel bekend. Toch gaan de meeste historici er vanuit dat het feest stamt uit de middeleeuwen en werd gevierd in de streek rondom Haarlem en Amsterdam.
Op Hertjesdag (de derde maandag in augustus) mocht het gewone volk deelnemen aan de hertjesjacht, een privilige dat de rest van het jaar alleen voorbehouden was aan de edelen. De geschoten herten werden aan grote spitten op straat geroosterd en onder het genot van vele pullen bier verorberd.
Door de jaren heen veranderde het feest in een echt volksfeest, waarbij mannen zich als vrouwen en vrouwen zich als mannen verkleedden. Het was een feest van vrijheid en blijheid. In Haarlem en Bloemendaal werden de duinen beklommen en vreugdevuren ontstoken.
In Amsterdam concentreerde het feest zich op het Haarlemmerplein, -straat en Zeedijk. Het Haarlemmerplein stond vol kramen en draaischuitjes en de mensen dansten op draaiorgelmuziek. Volgepropte rijtuigen reden honderden feestvierders af en aan en uit alle herbergen klonk dronkemansgeschal en gelach.
Nog tot ver in de tweede wereldoorlog werd hartjesdag gevierd, maar nadat de Duitsers het in 1943 verboden, werd slechts op een enkele plek in Amsterdam (zoals de Dapperbuurt) hartjesdag gevierd.
In 1997 besloot de NV Zeedijk dit eeuwenoude feest in ere te herstellen. Een feest met nog steeds de uitstraling van vrijheid en blijheid.
Where does hartjesdag come from?
The exact origin is not entire known. Yet most historians think that the celebration comes from the middle ages and became four people in the region around Haarlem and Amsterdam.
On Hertjesdag (the third Monday in August) the common people couldparticipate at the pin hunt, a privilige that the rests of the year only reserve was at the nobles.,. The shot deer were grilled at large spits on street and consumed under the enjoyment of many mugs beer. Through the yearsthe celebration changed in a real peoples celebration by which men changed self as women and women self as men. It was a celebration of freedom and gladness. In Haarlem and flowers valley, the dunes were climbed and lit joy fire. In Amsterdam, the celebration concentrated on the Haarlemmerplein, -street and Zeedijk. The Haarlemmerplein stood full booths and turn boats and the men danced on turn organ music. Crammed carriages drove hundred partying people around and from all inns, laughter sounded.
Yet till far in the second world war became hartjesdag celebrated, but after the Germans it in 1943 bans, became only on a single spot in Amsterdam (as the brave neighborhood) hartjesdag celebrated.
In 1997, the NV Zeedijk decided this age-old celebration in honor to repair. A celebration with still the radiation of freedom and gladness.
